Peanut butter and greek yogurt (peanut butter mousse)
When peanut butter and greek yogurt or coconut yogurt are whipped together, it creates a mousse-like texture that is divine. It’s rich, creamy, fluffy, and light, and is a great base for your yogurt bowls! You can top it with your favorite toppings like banana slices, fresh fruit and berries, granola, chopped nuts, or even a chocolate magic shell!

How to make a peanut butter yogurt yogurt bowls
The full recipe is in the recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here’s an overview! This creamy, dreamy peanut butter yogurt is incredibly simple to make! All you need to do is mix up some Greek yogurt or coconut yogurt with honey or maple syrup and smooth peanut butter.
Ingredients
- Yogurt: Coconut yogurt or greek yogurt work best. You want to use a THICK yogurt as this is what makes it thick, creamy, and mousse-like! I like unsweetened vanilla!
- Peanut butter: Feel free to use your favorite nut butter if you don’t enjoy peanut butter! This recipe is also delicious with granola butter or sunflower seed butter for a nut-free option!
- Protein powder: this is optional, but I love adding 1/2-1 scoop to up the protein content (especially if using coconut yogurt as it’s lower in protein). Use a protein powder that you love the flavor of as it’ll affect the overall taste and sweetness of the recipe!
- Sweetener: Maple syrup, honey, or monk fruit for a low sugar option all work great!
- Pantry staples: vanilla extract, sea salt
- Chocolate chips: These are used to create the chocolate magic shell!
Steps to make a peanut butter mousse yogurt bowl
- In a food processor or blender, combine everything besides the chocolate magic shell ingredients. Process until well combined, fluffy, and no lumps remain. If you don’t have a food processor or blender, I highly recommend using a hand mixer or just whisking the mixture together really well to create the same fluffy texture.
- Add the peanut butter mousse to your jars.
- In a small bowl, combine the peanut butter and chocolate. Heat in the microwave (or using the double-boiler method) in 30 second increments, stirring between each, until completely smooth. Pour over the yogurt.
- Place the jars in the freezer for at least an hour or in the fridge overnight. This allows the yogurt to thicken up and the chocolate to set! You can add extra toppings when you’re ready to eat or prior to placing in the fridge! Enjoy!
Recipe variations
- Nut-free yogurt bowl: Opt for granola butter or sunflower butter and use nut-free toppings like nut-free granola, berries, banana slices, etc.!
- Vegan yogurt bowls: Use coconut yogurt and vegan toppings!
- Strawberry cheesecake yogurt bowl: Use cashew or almond butter, add 1 tbsp strawberry jam, and top with a crushed Simple Mills toasted pecan cookie or graham cracker, fresh chopped strawberries or blackberries, and a few white chocolate chips!
- Tropical yogurt bowl: Leave out the peanut butter and top your bowl with kiwi and pineapple and shredded toasted coconut or a coconut granola.
- Chocolate almond yogurt bowl: Stir in 1/2 scoop of chocolate protein, use almond butter instead of peanut butter, and top with cacao nibs, toasted almonds or almond granola.
- S’mores yogurt bowl: Use granola butter, add 1-2 chopped healthy marshmallows, a crushed up Simple Mills toasted pecan cookie (or graham cracker, S’mores granola, etc), and a sprinkle of chocolate chips!
Expert tips & fAQ’s
- Can you put chia seeds in yogurt? Chia seeds tend to swell with liquid and become less crunchy the longer they sit, so either blend them in with the yogurt or just add them right before eating!
- How to make yogurt more filling: Greek yogurt is more filling than plain yogurt because it’s packed with protein and coconut yogurt is packed with healthy fats which will both keep you fuller for longer! These are my two favorite options. Opt for fiber-rich toppings like berries, chia seeds, nuts, etc.

Peanut Butter Yogurt Bowl
Ingredients
Snickers version (1/2 the recipe for 1 serving!)
- 1 1/4 cup thick greek yogurt or coconut yogurt
- 3 tbsp powdered peanut butter or regular peanut butter
- 3 tbsp honey or maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla & pinch of extract
- 2 tbsp peanut butter, divided (for topping)
- 1 1/2 tbsp maple syrup (for topping)
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips (for topping)
- 1 tsp coconut oil
- optional: chopped peanuts and sea salt for topping
Regular peanut butter mousse jars
- 1 1/4 cups yogurt (greek yogurt or coconut yogurt – make sure it's thick!)
- 3-4 tbsp peanut butter (or almond, cashew, sunflower or granola butter).
- 3 tbsp maple syrup or honey
- 1 scoop of your favorite protein powder *optional! Use a flavor you LOVE* See notes
- 1-3 tbsp milk, of choice *if using protein powder, use more as needed* See notes
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract & pinch of sea salt
Chocolate magic shell
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips or chopped chocolate bar
- 1/2 tbsp peanut butter or other nut/seed butter
Butterfinger version (same recipe as above for yogurt & chocolate shell with this filling)
- 3ish tbsp crushed corn flake cereal (I like Real Cereal or Nature's path organics!)
- 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
- 2 tbsp runny/creamy peanut butter
Instructions
Snickers version
- In a small bowl, combine all of the ingredients besides the toppings (yogurt, powdered peanut butter or regular peanut butter, maple or honey, vanilla and sea salt). Whisk well until no lumps remain. Divide amongst two jars.
- Mix 2 tablespoon of runny/creamy peanut butter with 1 1/2 tbsp maple syrup until smooth, then pour over top of the yogurt.
- In a small bowl, melt the chocolate and coconut oil until smooth. Pour over top of the peanut butter layer. You can even swirl it in if you'd like. Top with chopped nuts and sea salt.
- Place in the freezer for 30 minutes or so until it's firmed up. Enjoy!
Mousse version
- In a food processor or blender, combine everything besides the chocolate magic shell ingredients. Process until well combined, fluffy, and no lumps remain. Add a tablespoon of milk at a time, if needed. You want the mixture to be thick, but not pasty if that makes sense! If you don't have a food processor or blender, I highly recommend using a hand mixer or just whisking the mixture together really well to create the same fluffy texture.
- Taste the mousse & adjust as you’d like – an extra tbsp of peanut butter for more flavor, extra sweetener or vanilla, etc. Add the peanut butter mousse to your jars.
This allows the yogurt to thicken up and the chocolate to set. You can add other toppings you'd like rather than the chocolate magic shell or along with it. Simply add the toppings prior to eating or before placing them in the fridge! Enjoy!
Butterfinger version
- Follow the same instructions as above but for the butterfinger topping, mix together the corn flake cereal, maple syrup, and peanut butter. Spread over top of the yogurt layer. Then top with the chocolate magic shell!

can you use powdered peanut butter instead?
Hi Nicole! I haven’t tried it, but it may affect the overall taste & texture and not have that true creamy, peanut butter flavor! However, it’s worth a shot! Let me know if you try it!
