Homemade Healthy Peppermint Patties feature a creamy peppermint center coated in silky chocolate and are the most refreshing treat! Made with 5 simple, wholesome ingredients, these no-bake delights are not only easy but also packed with flavor. These are naturally vegan, gluten-free, & refined sugar-free!

Do you love peppermint and chocolate? If so, you’re going to love today’s recipe – homemade peppermint patties! These peppermint patties are made completely from scratch, and although they’re a healthier twist on the classic treat, they taste so similar to the popular peppermint patties you can buy at the store. The creamy coconut-mint filling melts in your mouth, while the rich chocolate coating adds the perfect touch of indulgence. They’re quick, easy, and a fantastic option for satisfying your sweet tooth while also fueling your body with more wholesome ingredients!
I will note, that the base of these homemade peppermint patties is coconut, however they DO NOT have a strong coconut flavor. The mint blends in so well and when processed together, it creates this delicious and creamy filling. Even if you aren’t a coconut fan, you might just fall in love with these!

Equipment

Ingredients
Unlike most homemade peppermint patty recipes, my recipe doesn’t contain any corn syrup, butter, sweetened condensed milk, or powdered sugar. You can create a delicious, creamy, refreshing peppermint filling without any of that. Let’s take a peak at the overview of healthy ingredients –
- Unsweetened shredded coconut
- Coconut oil
- Mint extract
- Maple syrup
- Chocolate chips – I used semi-sweet chocolate for this recipe, but you can use dark chocolate or milk chocolate. White chocolate would also be a delicious spin!
Steps to make peppermint patties
- Make the Mint Filling: In a food processor, blend the shredded coconut, melted coconut oil, mint extract, and maple syrup until the mixture is smooth and sticky. Scoop out small portions and roll them into balls. Flatten each ball into a small disc to create the peppermint patty shape.
- Melt the Chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl or using a double boiler, melt the chocolate chips until smooth and glossy.
- Coat the Patties: Remove the mint discs from the freezer. Dip each one into the melted chocolate, ensuring it’s fully coated. Use a fork to lift and let excess chocolate drip off. Place the coated patties back onto the parchment-lined tray.
- Set the Chocolate: Once all patties are coated, freeze them until the chocolate is fully set, about 25-20 minutes, before placing them in an air-tight container to store in the freezer.

Recipe Tips and Variation
- Dress them up: want to make them pretty for any holiday? Simply add some colored sprinkles to the top before the chocolate sets. For a festive touch, sprinkle crushed candy canes or sea salt on top!
- Use High-Quality Chocolate: Opt for dark chocolate with a high cocoa percentage for a rich and satisfying coating.
- Use a fork to dip them and help slide them off the fork onto the baking sheet.
How to store peppermint patties
Store the peppermint patties in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week or in the freezer for longer storage. Enjoy them straight from the fridge for a refreshing treat!

Healthy Peppermint Patties
Ingredients
For the mint discs
- 2 cups unsweetened shredded coconut
- 3 tbsp maple syrup or honey
- 1 tbps melted coconut oil
- 1/2 tsp mint extract
- 1 tbsp creamer or milk (I used NutPods creamer!) *optional, but I prefer to add it!
Chocolate coating
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 2-3 tsp coconut oil *optional, if needed to help thin out the chocolate for dipping!
Instructions
- Make the Mint Filling: In a food processor, blend the shredded coconut, melted coconut oil, mint extract, and maple syrup until the the mixture becomes smooth – the longer you blend it, the more the coconut will break down and become a little smoother. I like to add a tablespoon of NutPods creamer to help smooth the mixture out even more, but be careful not to add too much as they won't firm up properly.
- Scoop out small portions and roll them into balls – I like to use a small cookie scoop to do this to ensure they're all around the same size! Flatten each ball into a small disc to create the peppermint patty shape.
- Melt the Chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl or using a double boiler, melt the chocolate chips with 1 tsp of coconut oil until smooth and glossy.
- Coat the Patties: Remove the mint discs from the freezer. Dip each one into the melted chocolate, ensuring it's fully coated. Use a fork to lift and let excess chocolate drip off. Place the coated patties back onto the parchment-lined tray.
- Set the Chocolate: Once all patties are coated, freeze them until the chocolate is fully set, about 10-15 minutes. Then store them in an air-tight container in the fridge or freezer. Note: Store in freezer for longer term storage. You can always let them sit out at room temperature for a few minutes to soften, if needed!

I was worried these were going to have a strong coconut flavor but was shocked at how good they were! You really don’t taste the coconut with the mint and chocolate! so fresh!
Hi Allie! Thank you so much for trying them – I totally agree! I personally love coconut, but didn’t want it to be over powering. I’m so happy you liked them!
