Step 1: Make the dough

Add all the ingredients (besides strawberries) to a food processor and process until dough forms. Then fold in the freeze dried strawberries.

Step 2: Adjust the Texture

If the mixture seems too dry or crumbly, add a little more cashew butter or honey. If it’s too sticky, add a small amount of protein powder or shredded coconut.

Step 3: Roll Into Balls

Use your hands or a small cookie scoop to portion the mixture and roll it into bite-sized balls. You can then roll in shredded coconut if you’d like! Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Step 4: Chill

Place the strawberry protein balls in the freezer for at least 20–30 minutes to firm up before moving to an air-tight container.

Tips for the Best Strawberry Protein Balls

  • Use soft cashew butter. A naturally creamy cashew butter works best and makes the mixture easier to combine.
  • Don’t skip the freeze-dried strawberries. Fresh strawberries contain too much moisture and can make the protein balls difficult to form. Freeze-dried berries give you concentrated flavor without the extra liquid.
  • Choose a protein powder you enjoy. The flavor of your protein powder will come through, so vanilla or an unflavored protein powder works especially well.
  • Adjust as needed. Protein powders vary quite a bit in how much liquid they absorb. If your mixture isn’t coming together, add a little more cashew butter or honey.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I use fresh strawberries? I don’t recommend it. Fresh strawberries contain a lot of water, which can make the mixture too wet and shorten its shelf life. Freeze-dried strawberries work much better for this recipe.
  • Can I make these strawberry protein balls without protein powder? You can, but the texture and protein content will change. You may need to adjust the amount of cashews or coconut to create a rollable dough.
  • Can I use a different nut butter? Absolutely! Almond butter and peanut butter both work well. Keep in mind that changing the nut butter will slightly change the flavor and texture.
  • Are these protein balls gluten-free?
es, the ingredients are naturally gluten-free. If you need to strictly avoid gluten, check the labels on your protein powder and other packaged ingredients for potential cross-contamination.

How to Store Strawberry Protein Balls

Store your protein balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week or the freezer for up to three months. I prefer them straight from the freezer!
