Why you NEED to be consuming electrolytes import
Electrolytes are super important for your body as they help keep a bunch of vital systems running smoothly.
- Nerve function – Electrolytes like sodium and potassium help transmit electrical signals in your body. Your brain and nerves literally rely on these to communicate with muscles and other organs!
- Muscle Contraction – Muscles (including your heart) need electrolytes—especially calcium, potassium, and magnesium—to contract and relax properly. If these get out of balance, you might feel weak, crampy, or even have irregular heartbeats.
- Hydration Balance – Sodium, chloride, and potassium help regulate how much water stays in your cells and tissues. They keep your body hydrated and prevent cells from swelling up or shriveling.
- pH Level Regulation – Electrolytes help maintain your body’s pH level and therefore, is crucial for enzyme function and overall metabolic stability.
- Nutrient Transport – They help move nutrients into cells and waste out of them, keeping everything running smoothly.
Benefits of grass-fed Gelatin
Grass-fed gelatin has many benefits including:
- Healthy, glowing skin: gelatin provides necessary proteins that improve your skin’s moisture & elasticity
- Heals the intestinal track by coating and calming irritation and inflammation
- Supports mobility through the promotion of healing in your connective tissues
- Helps joint and cartilage health, as it contains supportive proteins
- Improved bone health
- Contains a wonderful amino acido profile
- Helps repair the gut lining – the perfect recipe for anyone dealing with leaky gut, etc.

Not all gelatin is created equal – Why choose grass-fed vs Grain-fed
Grass-fed gelatin is partially hydrolyzed collagen extracted from grass-fed beef. The collagen is first boiled at temperatures higher than 40 degrees celcius, which breaks it down into smaller chains known as gelatin. After it is cooled, gelatin takes on a jelly-like form.
- Grass-fed gelatin comes from grass-fed beef collagen.
- Grain-fed gelatin is made from grain-fed beef collagen.
Grain-fed beef products are typically derived from antibiotic-pumped cattle, in poor living conditions. Grain-fed based diets are linked to bovine health issues, masses in the liver, and inflammation in the hooves, which will produce low-grade beef products.
Grass-fed based diets in cattle are synonymous with a better beef nutritional profile and has been found to contain higher amounts of omega-3 fatty acids, nutrients, and collagen. Simply put, you are what you eat!
How to make homemade electrolyte gummies
Full recipe is in the recipe card at the bottom of the post!
Tools
- Mold: The fun part about making homemade gummies is that you can make them in any sort of shape/mold. If you don’t want to purchase specialty molds, you can simply. use an 8×8 pan and cut them into squares after they’ve set. If you do want to make fun shapes, I love using these gummy bear molds and this individual square mold.
- Mixing bowl
- Spoon or dropper: I love using a little dropper for easier transferring of the gelatin mixture to the molds.

Ingredients
- Gelatin: I use Further Food Gelatin, as it’s grass-fed pasture-raised. Be sure to use a grass-fed gelatin (more on this above!)
- Watermelon or watermelon juice: You’ll need 1 cup of watermelon juice. You can blend watermelon and then strain OR you can use 100% watermelon juice! I love the brand Sun Tropics!
- Coconut water: You can substitute more watermelon juice but coconut water offers many health benefits! It contains a rich electrolyte composition and offers many skin benefits including hydration, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, improving skin elasticity, fighting acne, & soothing sunburned skin. Look for an organic coconut water with no added sugar or other ingredients! I personally love Trader Joe’s!
- Honey
- Electrolyte powder mix – this is optional but adds extra electrolytes and flavor to the recipe! I LOVE Ultima pink lemonade! I’ll actually leave the honey out of the recipe if I add the electrolytes!
Steps
- Do I need to use a silicone mold? You do not have to use a silicone mold for these. Alternatively, the mixture can be poured into a glass baking dish, cooled in the refrigerator, and cut into pieces!
- Do homemade gummies need to be refrigerated? Because these homemade gummies are made with real ingredients and no preservatives, they will not keep at room temperature and will melt! To stay firm, they need to be stored in the fridge in an air-tight container!
- Use a dropper for easier transferring of the gelatin mixture to your molds and for less mess!

FAQ’s
- How many gummies should I eat for gut-health? 4-5 gummies per day for improved gut function!
- Storage: Because these homemade gummies are made with real ingredients and no preservatives, they will not keep at room temperature and will melt! To stay firm, they need to be stored in the fridge in an air-tight container!
- How many should I enjoy? Enjoy a few pieces as the perfect pick-me-up or post-workout snack!
