This healthy Jello recipe gives the classic treat a simple upgrade using gelatin and a few wholesome ingredients.

It’s a fun, easy homemade Jello recipe that makes the perfect snack or light dessert. And if you’ve been seeing gelatin called “nature’s Botox” all over social media, there’s actually a reason this ingredient has gotten so much attention. Grass-fed gelatin is known for it’s amino acid profile (It is rich in glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline) which are building blocks to create its own structural proteins for the skin! So you can have your cake and eat it, too 😉

Be sure to scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post for the full recipe! This recipe is super versatile, so you can switch things up and use what you have/like. Here’s a few things you’ll need:

  • Grass-fed Gelatin: This is what makes the Jello set. Look for a high-quality gelatin that dissolves easily (& for the health benefits!) I love Further foods gelatin or Great Lakes!
  • Brewed tea: Choose your favorite juice for flavor and natural sweetness. Orange, strawberry, cherry, grape, or apple juice all work well.
  • Fruit Juice/coconut water:
  • Fresh fruit: Optional, but adding chopped berries or fruit makes homemade Jello extra fun.
  • Sweetener: Depending on the juice you use, you may not need any additional sweetener. If you do, add a little maple syrup or your preferred sweetener to taste.

How to Make Healthy homemade Jello

1. make the base

Add your gelatin to a small amount of cold liquid and let it sit for a few minutes. This allows the gelatin to absorb the liquid and helps prevent clumps.

2. Add fruit

If you’re using fresh fruit, add it to your molds or pan.

3. Chill

Pour the gelatin mixture over the fruit and refrigerate until completely set, usually several hours. That’s it! Once the Jello is firm, it’s ready to enjoy.

Why Is Gelatin Called “Nature’s Botox”?

You’ve probably seen gelatin or collagen referred to online as “nature’s Botox.” The nickname comes from the connection between collagen and skin structure. Collagen is one of the major structural proteins in the body and plays an important role in skin, bones, tendons, ligaments, and connective tissue. Gelatin is produced by partially breaking down collagen, so it contains collagen-derived amino acids.

This is why gelatin has become popular in beauty and wellness recipes, especially recipes marketed as “nature’s Botox.” That said, gelatin can be an easy way to incorporate collagen-derived protein into your diet, which is one reason I love using it in simple recipes like this.

Healthy Jello Variations

  • Strawberry Jello: Use strawberry juice or add a few scoops of strawberry electrolytes.
  • Raspberry Jello: Add fresh raspberries for a naturally vibrant color and tart flavor.
  • Cherry Jello: Tart cherry juice makes a delicious sweet-tart version.
  • Orange Jello: Use fresh orange juice for a bright citrus flavor.
  • Lemon Jello: Add extra lemon juice for a refreshing, tangy dessert.
  • Berry Jello: Combine strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries.
