The Dalgona Coffee comes together with just two ingredients and the homemade, dairy-free chocolate cashew milk takes it over the top – it’s a great way to get all the chocolatey goodness of a mocha without having to use a sugar-laden chocolate sauce! It can be hard to find a good low sugar coffee option. This version is made with homemade chocolate cashew milk that even sneaks in some protein! It comes together in under 5 minutes with simple, wholesome ingredients and really makes a delicious alternative to sugar-laden mocha’s!

How to make a Mocha Dalgona Coffee

Tools needed

  • Hand mixer or stand mixer – I use my stand mixer as it makes the whole coffee whipping process INCREDIBLY quick & easy, but a hand mixer works just as great!

Ingredients You’ll Need

For the dalgona whipped coffee:

  • Instant coffee (yes, instant is key for the foam!) this won’t work with regular ground coffee.
  • Granulated sugar – you can use coconut sugar, monk fruit sweetener, or regular sugar. I used powdered monk fruit sweetener & it’s delicious!
  • Hot water

For the chocolate cashew milk:

  • Cacao powder
  • Raw cashews
  • Sweetener, of choice – this is optional! I do a few monk fruit drops. If adding protein powder, you may not need to add any additional sweetener!
  • Chocolate protein powder (totally optional, but I love the flavor and creaminess it adds!) I used Macro Mike Smoothe Pea protein in rich Chocolate. You can use my code “amb-dani” for a discount!
  • Vanilla extract & sea salt

How to Make a Mocha dalgona coffee

  1. Whip it up: In a mixing bowl, add instant coffee, sugar, hot water, and cocoa powder. Using a hand mixer (or a whisk if you’re ready for an arm workout), whip until it’s thick, fluffy, and forms soft peaks. I personally prefer to use a stand mixer as it speeds up the process, tons!
  2. Make the milk: Add all ingredients to a blender & blend until completely smooth. Taste & adjust as you’d like. Store in a container in the fridge until ready to use!
  3. Prep your glass: Fill a glass with ice and pour in your milk of choice.
  4. Top it off: Spoon the whipped coffee mixture on top of the milk.
  5. Optional garnish: Swirl with whipped cream, sprinkle with cocoa, or drizzle with chocolate sauce for that coffeehouse vibe!

Dalgona Coffee

  • 2 tbsp instant coffee
  • 2 tbsp powdered or granulated sweetener *see notes for reccomendations!
  • 2 tbsp hot water

Chocolate cashew milk

  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup raw cashews
  • 2 tbsp raw cacao powder
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder *optional but rich & yummy!
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • pinch sea salt

Instructions
 

  • Whip it up: In a mixing bowl, add instant coffee, sugar, & hot water. Using a hand mixer (or a whisk if you’re ready for an arm workout), whip until it’s thick, fluffy, and forms soft peaks. I personally prefer to use a stand mixer as it speeds up the process, tons!
  • The longer it whips, the thicker and lighter in color it will get! Be patient if hand mixing.
  • Make the milk: Add all ingredients to a blender & blend until completely smooth. Taste & adjust as you'd like. Store in a container in the fridge until ready to use!
  • Prep your glass: Fill a glass with ice and pour in your milk of choice. Spoon the whipped coffee mixture on top of the milk. Stir it in and enjoy!
