This is the best High Protein Cinnamon French Toast – fluffy on the inside, perfectly golden on the outside, and packed with protein! Made with just 6 simple ingredients, it makes an incredibly delicious, easy, and healthier indulgent breakfast recipe!

High protein breakfast recipe
I am a big believer in the power of a high protein breakfast. But, raise your hand if you’ve ever been personally victimized by a high-protein recipe that looked amazing… only to turn out dry, dense, or completely flavorless. Trust me, you’re not alone. Thankfully, this isn’t one of those recipes. 😉
This Protein French Toast is everything a great breakfast should be; it’s fluffy on the inside, perfectly golden on the outside, and packed with protein without tasting like a “protein recipe.” It comes together in under 15 minutes with simple ingredients like bread, egg whites, protein powder, and cinnamon, making it an easy, satisfying breakfast you’ll actually look forward to waking up for!
Unlike traditional French toast that’s mostly refined carbs, this healthier version sneaks protein right into the custard mixture using protein powder and egg whites. The result? A delicious breakfast that tastes just like classic French toast while keeping you satisfied for hours. And don’t worry, if you don’t like protein powder, you can simply leave it out!

Why You’ll Love This Protein French Toast
- Packed with protein, duh 😉
- Ready in just 15 minutes
- Crispy edges with a soft, fluffy center
- Naturally refined sugar-free, easily made gluten-free, & family-friendly
- Perfect for breakfast or brunch
It tastes like your favorite cozy breakfast but delivers a much more satisfying balance of protein and carbohydrates.
Why Add Protein Powder to French Toast?
Protein powder blends seamlessly into the egg mixture, creating a rich custard that coats every slice of bread without changing the classic French toast flavor. You can use your favorite protein powder, but I love using the new Ka’Chava French Toast flavor. It not only boosts the protein content, but also adds plant-based nutrients, fiber, and even more french toast flavor! This recipe creates a high-protein breakfast that’s delicious, filling, and balanced!
Whether you’re fueling up after a workout, meal prepping breakfast for the week, or simply looking for a healthier weekend brunch, this protein-packed French toast is one recipe you’ll find yourself making again and again.

Be sure to scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post for the full recipe! Here’s an overview of what we’ll need:
- Ka’Chava French Toast protein powder: you can use your favorite protein powder, I just love that this one gives extra french toast flavor & nutrients! You can use my code DANIBREINER to save!
- Egg whites & whole eggs – a mix of both creates a luscious “custard” coating, adds extra nutrients, and healthy fats to keep the breakfast balanced and satiating!
- Gluten-free or regular bread of choice
- Milk, of choice
- Ground cinnamon
- Pure vanilla extract & Sea salt – for flavor!
How to Make Protein French Toast
Be sure to scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post for the full recipe!
Step 1: Prepare the “Custard”
In a shallow bowl, whisk together the egg whites, protein powder, milk, cinnamon, vanilla, and sea salt until completely smooth. If your protein powder clumps easily, blend the mixture for a few seconds for an extra silky custard.
Step 2: Soak the bread & cook
Heat a lightly greased skillet or griddle over medium heat.
Dip each slice of bread into the mixture, allowing both sides to absorb the custard without becoming overly soggy. Cook the French toast for several minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.
Step 3: Serve
Top with your favorite toppings and enjoy warm! I love doing a drizzle of maple syrup or honey, almond or cashew butter, a dusting of cacao, a dollop of greek or coconut yogurt, or even fresh berries.
The Best Bread for Protein French Toast
The type of bread you use can completely change the texture.
Some of my favorites include:
- Thick-cut gluten-free bread
- Sourdough
- Brioche (for a more indulgent version)
- Sprouted grain bread
- Paleo bread: Simple Kneads, AWG, & Base Culture are some of my faves!
Best Toppings
One of the best parts about French toast is the toppings! Here are some yummy ideas to elevate this breakfast even more:
- Fresh berries: strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries
- Banana slices
- Nut butter drizzle: almond butter & cashew butter are my faves!
- Greek yogurt or Coconut yogurt
- Chopped pecans, Walnuts, or Hemp hearts
- Maple syrup or Honey
- Coconut whipped cream
- Chocolate chips

Tips for the Best Protein French Toast
- Use medium heat to prevent the outside from browning before the inside cooks.
- Whisk the custard thoroughly so the protein powder is fully incorporated.
- Don’t soak the bread for too long or it may become too soft.
- Thick slices of bread create the fluffiest French toast.
- Let the cooked slices rest for a minute before serving to help them stay crisp.
