Equipment
- Mixing bowl – you can also whip this up in a food processor to make an extra smooth and creamy texture!
- Spatula
- Candy mold or mini muffin tin – if you want to make the peanut butter cups!
Ingredients
Full recipe is in the recipe card at the bottom of the post! These frozen yogurt bars call for only a handful of simple pantry staple ingredients! Here is an overview of what you’ll need:
- Yogurt – The best yogurt to use to make frozen yogurt desserts is one with a good amount of fat – it’s important to use a THICK yogurt and low-fat options are often way too thin to create a creamy, thick consistency. You can use greek yogurt or coconut yogurt. For coconut yogurt, I like the brands CocoJune and Culina. I like to use unsweetened vanilla yogurt.
- Honey or maple syrup – just a tad is used to sweeten the yogurt bars. You can omit the sweetener for a no sugar option, if you find your batter to be sweet enough with the protein powder and yogurt you use!
- Protein powder – I have only tested this recipe using plant-based protein. I wouldn’t recommend using whey, however collagen should work. I like to use Macro Mike salted caramel protein for this recipe. It really makes them taste like a dessert! They have other amazing flavors – you can use my code “amb-dani” for a discount! Be sure to use a protein powder you love, as it’ll affect the flavor. You can also omit the powder altogether.
- Peanut butter – cashew butter and almond butter also work! Sunflower seed butter is a great nut-free option.
- Chocolate chips – if you don’t want to make the peanut butter cups, you can simply fold chocolate chips into the yogurt!
- Vanilla extract & sea salt (optional)

Steps
- Make the peanut butter cups – melt the chocolate in a small bowl until smooth. Add a little to the bottom of your chocolate cup molds or mini muffin pans. Freeze for a few minutes until firm. In another small bowl, combine the peanut butter and protein (optional). Add a little of the peanut butter mixture on top of the each chocolate crevice. Then top with remaining chocolate. Return to the freezer for an hour or so to firm up.
- In a large bowl, combine all of the yogurt bar ingredients, mixing until smooth. Pour into a parchment-lined loaf pan or silicone bar mold. Chop the peanut butter cups into smaller pieces, then add on top. You can also fold them into the mixture.
- Freeze the bars for at least 5 hours-overnight until completely firm. Let them rest at room temperature for 5-10 minutes before cutting them into bars.
- Store in an air-tight container in the freezer. Let thaw for 5 minutes or so prior to eating for the creamiest texture!
Yogurt bark variations
- Snickers yogurt bark: Add in some chopped peanuts and chopped dates for a snickers vibe!
- Fruit yogurt bark: Top the yogurt bark with berries or other fruit before freezing.
- Festive yogurt bark: Add 1/2 tsp almond extract to the yogurt batter and top with sprinkles!
- Strawberry jam
- Cinnamon, pistachios & orange zest: This combination reminds me of baklava and I absolutely love it. Mix cinnamon into the yogurt batter and stir in pistachios and some orange zest!

Vegan frozen yogurt bars
These frozen yogurt bars can easily be made vegan, just use a high-fat dairy-free yogurt option!
Expert tips
- Slicing the Yogurt Bars: To perfectly slice your yogurt bars, take a knife and make lines in your frozen yogurt where you want them. Then, go back over them with the knife to cut them and they will come out clean every time! You can also run your knife under hot water prior to slicing to make the cuts smoother.
- Use full fat yogurt: This is key for the best texture and to avoid that iciness.
- How to add extra flavor: If you want to add extra flavor to the yogurt, add a teaspoon of vanilla extract, maple syrup or honey, or almond butter.
- Let sit at room temperature: Allowing bars to sit out for a few minutes before eating helps soften them up and make them easier to eat.
Storing frozen yogurt bars
Yogurt bars should be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months. Once they’re frozen, you can transfer them to a freezer baggie or air-tight container.

It’s not okay how good these are! I Kept sneaking to my freezer throughout the day to steal them!
Yay, i’m so happy you loved them and I know that ALL TOO WELL!
How many calories are each one?
Hi Kat! So this will totally be dependent on the brands you use! I’d recommend plugging the recipe into a calorie app with the exact brands you’re using for the most accurate numbers!
Hi Dani,
I cant use protein powder, do u think theres a way to use some of a protein shake in the recipe???
Hi Rochelle! Honestly, I’d leave the protein out! The shake would make these too runny! If you use a thick greek yogurt, that’ll add lots of protein itself!
how many bars
It’s up to you! You can cut them into large bars or make them smaller bites (:
