What is whipped honey?

Whipping honey in a mixer incorporates air into its composition, making the honey lighter in color, fluffy, creamy, and a thicker, more spreadable consistency! You may have also heard it referred to as creamed honey, but don’t worry, no cream is involved – It just looks super creamy! This whipped honey recipe can be used for whipped honey butter, whipped honey coffees and lattes, or even whipped honey frosting.

The coolest part is once the honey is whipped, it stays whipped and doesn’t deflate. You can use it on toast, my favorite gluten-free pancakes, dip apples in it, anywhere you’d use honey! Drizzle a little over my breakfast crumble, use it to sweeten blueberry lemon chia pudding, or spread some on a banana coffee cake muffin!

Whipped honey also makes a great gift (DIY Christmas or birthday gifts are so fun!). You can store them in little mason jars! I like using 4oz mason jars for smaller, cute gifts but you can also use larger jars, because this stuff goes quick! The color is beautiful, too!

Why you’ll love whipped honey

  • There’s only one ingredient, honey!
  • Comes together in about 20 minutes (It’ll take less time if you make less!)
  • It has the same nutritional value and health benefits as regular honey.
  • The honey is not heated so its antioxidants/nutritional benefits are not altered or damaged!
  • Can be used in so many ways! Use it wherever you would use liquid honey (on oatmeal, yogurt bowls, toast, pancakes, etc).
  • Literally lasts FOREVER, so you can make a big batch and have it around for a long time!

How to make whipped honey

Full measurements & instructions are in the recipe card at the bottom of post!

Equipment

  • Stand Mixer with whisk attachment or electric hand mixer: I love my Kitchenaid, but this is also a cheaper option! You can use a hand mixer, but keep in mind the whipping time will take longer.
  • Storing Jar
A jar of whipped honey.

Ingredients

  • Honey: High quality honey is important here as it will not only have the best flavor, but will contain higher antioxidant properties. You can even use crystallized honey. I love getting my honey on Thrive Market, because it’s the best price i’ve seen (You can use my link to get 30% off your first order & a free gift!).
  • Cinnamon: Totally optional, but I love the earthy flavor cinnamon adds to the sweetness of the honey! Such an amazing pair!

Steps

  • Step 1: Add the honey to the bowl of your stand mixer with the whisk attachment.
  • Step 2: Turn the stand mixer onto the highest setting and let it whip for at least 20 minutes. The longer you let it whip, the fluffier it gets. I usually let mine go for 25 minutes.
  • Step 3: Carefully pour the whipped honey into whatever container you’re storing it in. Enjoy!
  • After the honey sits for a bit, you may see a foamy layer on top of the honey. This separation is totally normal, just give the honey a good stir before using!

Flavor Variations

  • Add a teaspoon or so of cinnamon.
  • Mix in some finely zested orange peel.
  • Add in cardamom for cardamom honey or add in some chai spice!
  • Whip in some raw cacao powder for a chocolate honey.
  • Whip in some red pepper for hot honey vibe!

How to use whipped honey

  • Use in lattes – I used to love honey cinnamon lattes. Use this to sweeten your favorite coffee!
  • Drizzle it over yogurt bowls and granola.
  • Use it on your oatmeal.
  • Drizzle over french toast or pancakes.
  • Spread on banana bread.
  • Spread on toasted sourdough bread.
  • Drizzle some over ice cream or frozen yogurt. All of those Ninja Creami ice creams.. i’m looking at you!
  • Use as a sweetener anywhere you’d use regular honey or maple syrup.
  • Use it to sweeten matcha lattes or teas (This is the best matcha powder and is great for your skin!)

FAQ’s & Tips to make the best whipped honey

  • How to store leftover whipped honey: Store whipped honey in an air-tight container, like a mason jar. I like to store it in the fridge. It gets SUPER thick and spreadable. However, if you find that to be too thick, you can leave it out on your counter.
  • How long does whipped honey last? Real, raw honey has no shelf life, so this honestly could last months, but you’ll plow through it 😉
  • Be patient & let it whip long enough! Depending on your mixer, honey used, etc., it may take longer to get super fluffy. I find it does thicken up as it sits in your storage jar as well. I find around the 25 minute mark to be perfect for me!
  • Can you make honey with a hand mixer? Yes, but be prepared to be whipping for a WHILE.
  • Making a smaller batch: You can make a smaller batch by using 1 cup of honey. This will also cut back on whipping time, taking only about 10 minutes.
