Skip the store-bought stuff and make delicious, creamy Nutella at home with just a few wholesome ingredients! This versatile spread is chocolatey, creamy, and tastes even better than the real deal.
2/3cupchocolate chips or chopped chocolate*dark chocolate or milk chocolate both work
2tspvanilla extract
1/2tspsea salt
1-2tbspsweetener (coconut sugar, monk fruit, maple syrup, etc)*Optional - i'd recommend if using dark chocolate.
Instructions
Nutella made with cacao powder
Note: If you aren't using hazelnuts with the skins removed, you'll need to remove them yourself after roasting the nuts (it's okay if there's some skin, but you'll want most of them off).
Preheat oven to 350F. Lay the hazelnuts on a baking sheet and place in the oven to roast for 10 minutes.
In a Vitamix or food processor add the nuts while they are still warm, blending/processing until you achieve a creamy consistency. You'll need to scape the sides of the blender or food processor a few times - have patience! Depending on how strong your blender is, it may take awhile.
Once the butter is super smooth and creamy, add in the remaining ingredients, blending until everything is well combined. Taste & adjust as you'd like (more sweetener, salt, vanilla, etc).
Store the Nutella in an air-tight container at room-temp!

In the meantime, heat the chocolate over a double boiler or in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring well between each until smooth. Once the hazelnut butter is creamy and smooth, add the vanilla and salt. Then add the melted chocolate a little at a time, blending again until well incorporated. Taste and adjust as needed, adding more sweetener, salt, or vanilla if needed.
